Chef Brannon JAnca

Born a creative soul! – The Art & atmosphere of Down island

Chef Janca's passion for music, design and pottery is reflected in all areas of the restaurant. Gulf Coast artists dominate the interior, including art by Brannon's uncle, Frank Janca, Ocean Springs native, Walter Anderson, and Anderson's grandson, Chris Stelby. Signed concert posters, vintage Grateful Dead memorabilia, and New Orleans Jazz Fest posters from Janca's personal collection add to our laid back spirit. You'll also find drift-timber and other beached treasures collected from the Gulf Coast's barrier islands draping the walls, truly tying together the essence of Down Island. Finally, all of the water "glasses" and most of the dinnerware is hand-thrown, glazed and fired by Chef Janca himself-- a hidden talent not known to many. (And yes, he does plan on selling sets of these yunomi/guinomi cups later on!)
